I think the designs and prints from the early 20th century are just wonderful. Here are some great vintage fruit crate labels (yes, they bothered to make art for the lowly produce crate). Most of the labels are produced in Spain, home of the Valencia orange. Though I consider most of them beautiful works of pop art, some are a bit strange…
From back when Disney wasn’t suing everyone:

Gorgeous Art Deco print with snooty, tennis-playing rich people and gypsy girl:

Beautiful flirty women:

The simple yet honorable housewife:

…and her able assistant:

Great Pop Art:

Bad stereotype from the US (Texas!):

Strange brand featuring kids and the devil:

So un-PC in so many ways:

I’m guessing the ‘Bu’ would be Budapest? London, Paris…Budapest?

The Fountain of Youth was really orange juice:

Pin-up Vargas girls make it onto the fruit crates:

Dancing the night away on an orange half, Fred & Ginger Valencia-style:

Cool! I love vintage prints especially from the 50′s-70′s. I had old magazines with all these ads from my grandmother but I don’t remember where I kept them. I wanted to frame the ads. = (
Unreal! Love love love these. Would have them on my walls for sure. Vern, you gotta find those ads and frame them…
Hi!!! I would like to answer the question about what “Bu” from Bu-Pa-Lon means!!! Bu is from Burriana, a town near Valencia whose industry was mainly exporting oranges. Ships went directly from Burriana to Paris or London! This town even has a museum dedicated to this industry. Ah! The tower represented in the label next to the Big Ben and Eiffel tower is Burriana’s church’s bell tower!
That is so interesting! Thanks for sharing the information. You really learn something new everyday.
